Longtime El Dorado resident Tommy Harper died Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Lakepoint of El Dorado. He was 88 years of age.
Tommy Ray Harper was born on June 1, 1931 in Potwin. He was the son of Ray and Carrie Mae (Carnes) Harper. He grew up in Potwin and graduated from high school with the class of 1949.
After high school he attended Butler County Community College where he received his draftsman degree. He then attended Wichita State and The University of Kansas where he also studied drafting.
On August 29, 1951, Tommy was united in marriage to Joann Lewis.
He worked his entire career as a Draftsman mainly in the aircraft industry.
In his spare time, Tommy enjoyed working in the garden especially planting tomatoes. He made a pleasant impression on everyone he met. The caregivers at Lakepoint always mentioned how sweet a man he was and how easy it was to care for his needs.
Preceding Tommy in death were his parents, an infant son David, and his siblings Curtis Harper, Bob Harper, and George Harper.
Surviving family members include his wife of 68 years, Joann, and his daughter Jan Harper and her husband David Fowler of Wichita and their son Matthew.
