Thomas Sidney White

January 15, 1930 ~ July 21, 2021 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Thomas Sidney White passed away at home, surrounded by his wife and children. He was the third and youngest child of Virgil F.White and Hattie F. Beaver-White. The family were members of Central Baptist Church of Augusta, KS. Tom attended Indianola country school near his family farm home in rural Augusta, and graduated from Andover, KS High School. He received his Associates Degree from Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS and worked for Steve Weise Company in Wichita, KS before proudly serving at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California during the Korean War. He returned to Kansas and worked for Skelly oil refinery and received his Bachelors Degree from Wichita State University. He married Sarah Elizabeth Hatfield of Wellington, KS on May 20, 1954. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year. He received his Masters degree in Social Work from Washington University in St.Louis. He earned his Ph.D. from Kansas State University, upon submittal of his dissertation Agricultural Lands Preservation: A Sociology of Survival. He began his professonal career with the State of IIlinois in Champaign-Urbana, and continued as a case manager of clinical services for the Veterans Administration, and Chief Social Worker for the Kansas State Reception and Diagnostic Center in Topeka, KS. He provided lovingly for every need of his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest sister Mary Brant of Chanute, KS, his brothers-in-law Wendell Brant of Chanute, KS, and Charles Angleton of Tucson, AZ, and daugther Julie Lynn White. He is survived by his wife Sarah of the home, his sister Bonnie Belle Angleton of Tucson, his daughter Carla Teresa (Tess) White and spouse Tim Perry of El Dorado, KS and son Louis A. White and partner Andrea Rogers of Lawrence, KS. Tom and Sarah have five grandchildren and seven great-grand children. Tom was very sociable, humorous and exuberant before his decline in health, always eager to find treasures at garage sales. He will be missed greatly by his loved ones.
