Tribute

Susie Boehs Schmidt was born to Sam and Susie (Schmidt) Boehs August 23, 1928 on a rural farm near Fairview, OK. The angels came for Mom on August 4, 2019 as her family gathered around her bedside singing Longing For Home… “I can hardly wait to see my Savior smiling, and to hear those lovely words ‘Welcome Home’”. Susie’s childhood and youth were lived near rural Fairview, Ok. She attended a one room country school completing eight grades. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by minister Dan Smith, Fairview, OK, on March 5,1944. She served God faithfully for over 75 years. Several years ago Mom was very ill and received a special touch from the Lord with a vision of angels and Dad. It changed her… She had a longing for Heaven and had a sweet, sweet spirit about her. The salvation of her children and grandchildren was very important to her. She had a great trust in God’s providence and protection. She met and fell in love with Louie Schmidt from Chickasha, OK. They were joined in marriage April 24, 1949, living a rich life together for over 53 years. Mom was very loyal to Dad. First God… then Dad…then family. Their first home was near Clements, KS. They later moved to the Cassoday, KS rural area. To them were born 12 children… 4 boys and 8 girls. Raising a large family was not always easy, but we remember Mom’s patience and contentment in hard times. She was an avid gardener, quilter, baker, and cleaner. Mom loved keeping her hands busy. We have fond memories of Mom being very involved with our school years. Her home was always open for anyone who would happen to drop by. Good food, laughter and love were plentiful. She loved to sing but when asked would say she didn’t have a favorite song. She loved all of them. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her reading them Bible stories and her sense of humor. When Dad passed away of cancer in 2002, Mom missed him terribly. Her next companion, her daughter Geneva, left for heaven in February 2015 leaving her more lonesome still. Mom moved to the manor in June 2015. Mom is remembered as a “Mother in Israel”. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons: Galen and Janice, Burns, KS; Donald and Janice, Eureka, KS; Melvin, Potwin, KS; Jacob and Rhonda, Eureka, KS; her daughters: Areletta and Kenneth Koehn, Burns, KS; Virginia and Marcella, El Dorado, KS; Yvonne and Bob Koehn, El Dorado, KS; Patricia and Kennard Koehn, Indianola, MS; Kathryn and Gregory Koehn, Pearce, AZ; and Rachel and Stephen Koehn, Burns, KS; twenty-one grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one sister: Esther and Larry Fields, Tulsa, OK; one brother-in-law: David Irwin, Bella Vista, AR. Those preceding her in death were her husband, Louie Schmidt; one daughter, Geneva Schmidt; one grand-daughter, Desiree Schmidt; parents, Sam and Susie Boehs; four sisters: Bertha Rothenhoffer, Dinah Stone, Annie Boehs, and Ruth Irwin; seven brothers: Wilmer, Daniel, Jonathan, Sam, Frank, Jake, and Calvin.
