Stephen “Steve” Craig Gladfelter’s life began on October 29, 1949 in El Dorado, KS; the son of Fred and Lula (Miller) Gladfelter. Steve worked at the El Bowl at 14 and at 17, worked for Metropolitan Ambulance. Steve graduated from El Dorado High School. He worked for El Dorado and Augusta Departments of Safety, Police and Fire. In 1976, Steve became a Private Investigator working on insurance investigations until landing work with the Wichita Eagle in 1977 and worked in management until becoming disabled in 2005. Steve was honorably discharged from the US Army, served 6 years in the National guard including a stint on active duty. Steve married the love of his life, Brenda on May 3, 1986. Steve enjoyed camping; learning about electronics and computers. He took pride in his work and his work defined the man he was. He loved motorcycles and going riding. Steve was known for being a kind soul and very loving to his family. Steve especially loved his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife of 33 years, Brenda; children, Charles (Stacey) Gladfelter of Andover, Angela (James) Diel of Benton, Christopher Gladfelter of Augusta, Tyler Gladfelter of Towanda and Tracy Gladfelter of El Dorado; grandchildren Bailey, Jordan, Alexis, Jackson, James, Garet, Payton, Penelope, Braeden and Gabriel; and siblings Lee (Sandy) Gladfelter of Arboles, CO, Dennis (Glenda) Gladfelter of Clearwater, KS. Steve passed away on April 23, 2020 at his home in El Dorado. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be directed to the Charcot Marie Tooth Association or to the American Heart Association.
