Shirley Patterson

August 15, 1935 ~ May 25, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Shirley Marie Patterson, 85, of El Dorado, KS passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2021.

Shirley’s life began on August 15, 1935 in El Dorado, the only child of Boyd and Mable (McGuire) Baum.

She graduated from El Dorado High School, class of 1953 and El Dorado Junior College, class of 1955. While attending Juco, Shirley met Charles Patterson and they were united in marriage November 23, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. They raised their two children, Karen and Kenneth, in Augusta before moving to El Dorado in 1971. They were members of the First United Methodist Church.

Shirley was a homemaker and caregiver. She also helped out in the family businesses (Haberlein/Pattersons Clothing and A&W Root Beer in Augusta; Creative Keepsakes in El Dorado). Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend who always put others needs before her own. Family was everything to her and she liked being a stay-at-home mom. Shirley and Charles enjoyed playing golf, bridge, bowling, going for walks, and attending their children’s school activities and sporting events. She volunteered as a Room Mother, Girl Scout Brownie Troop Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. Shirley shared her love of cooking, baking and watching old movies with Kenneth. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching sports on television (especially KU and WSU basketball and the KC Royals) with Karen.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, in 2008, and her parents. She is survived by her children Karen and Kenneth Patterson, sister-in-law Aurilla White, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Heartfelt thanks to Serenity Hospice for the excellent care and support Shirley and her family received; and to everyone else who helped us with her care so she could remain at home.
