Longtime El Dorado, KS resident Robert “Bob” Stotts died Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at his home in El Dorado. He was 85 years of age.
Robert Gordon Stotts was born on November 1, 1934 on a farm in Chase County Kansas near Cottonwood Falls. He was the only child of Riley E. and Velma H. (Garman) Stotts.
When he was 6 years old his family moved to El Dorado. He attended school there and graduated with the El Dorado High School class of 1953. After high school he worked for the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
On June 28, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Mabel Darlene Pierce at the First Christian Church in El Dorado. To this union 3 children were born, Teresa, Robin, and Connie.
After their marriage, Bob started Eureka Auto Supply. He sold the business in the mid 60’s and went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He worked there until 1972 when he started working for the Eureka Federal Savings and Loans. He moved to Fredonia in 1973 where for the next 5 years he served as branch manager. In 1978 he moved to El Dorado and went to work for the Walnut Valley Bank as a loan officer and later created and became the Vice President of their Real Estate division to which he started for the bank. He retired in 1985.
Bob was a horse racing enthusiast and even owned his own horse that raced in the area. In his early years he enjoyed baseball and golf. He was even inducted into the El Dorado Baseball Hall of Fame. Later in life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents, his loving wife Darlene, and his daughter Robin Lynch.
Those family members left to cherish his memory are his children Teresa Leard, and Connie Bragg and her husband Wayne, all of El Dorado. He is also survived by grandchildren Aaron Bragg, Dustin Bragg, Caelin Bragg, Amanda Lynch, and Christie Lynch, as well as 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, and his long time very special friend Darla Schrader.
There will be a visitation time with the family on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Carlson Colonial Chapel in El Dorado from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 3 at 2:00 P.M. in the church at the Elmdale Cemetery, northeast of Elmdale, KS. Burial will follow directly after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Bob’s name to the Chase County Historical Society.
