January 29, 1932 ~ September 23, 2021 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Opal Irene (McGavock) Wartick, 89, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on September 23, 2021 at LakePoint Nursing Home in El Dorado, Kansas. Opal was born on January 29, 1932, Kansas Day, daughter to Ruth Elizabeth Sutton and Bert Tillman McGavock. Opal graduated from Augusta High School in 1950. On June 26, 1950, she married the love of her life, Frank Eugene Wartick. They were married for 70 years. Their love and devotion for each other grew throughout the years. Opal suffered a massive and debilitating stroke in October, 2010. Frank was her faithful and devoted caregiver, even after she entered LakePoint Nursing home as a resident in June, 2017. Opal worked part-time for the El Dorado Times inserting tabloid advertisements into newspapers. She enjoyed her job. Her paycheck became “her money” which she usually saved, unless she would get a phone call from TuDor clothing shop owner, Jean Autry, saying new merchandise had just arrived. She liked clothes. Opal and Frank enjoyed traveling and bus trips. Together they had seen almost every state in the USA. Besides traveling, Opal enjoyed garage sales. She was always buying something for the home or a specific item that the family members would ask her to find. Spending time with family was important to her, whether celebrating holidays, birthdays or caring for grandchildren. Opal loved her family dearly. She also loved Jesus and never hesitated to lead sing “Jesus loves me” during her time at LakePoint, and the other residents would join in. What a witness she was of her unwavering faith in Jesus, that even though her mind was impaired, she knew the truth that Jesus loves her and died for her sins. Today, because of her strong faith, we have the Hope through Christ Jesus that we will see her again, fully restored with a new body. John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E Wartick (June 13, 2021), mother Ruth Elizabeth Sutton Franks, siblings, Jessie Robert “Bob” Franks, Raymond W Franks, Velva Rosiere, son-in-law, Mike Groce. She is survived by children, Linda (John) Jernigan of Liberty Hill, Texas, Gary (Deborah) Wartick of El Dorado, Ks, Kellye (Randy) Harp of Wichita, Ks, Kent (Angie) Wartick of Shawnee, Kansas, sister, Veleda Ott of El Dorado, Ks. 10 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
