Mildred Hazel George was born November 25, 1921 at Lehigh, KS to Constantine and Lena (Buehler) Starkel. She moved with her family to Florence, KS at an early age. She attended all of her school years at Florence. She was married to John Henry George on November 18, 1939 in El Dorado, KS. They spent nearly all of their married life in El Dorado except for a short time in Wichita, McPherson and western Kansas. She enjoyed doing handiwork, cross-work puzzles and fishing. She loved to play games and cards and she taught all of her children and grandchildren how to play cards as they grew up. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to visit her because grandma loved playing games with them and would always take time to play with them. Survivors include her daughters Judy Ann Lurz, Connie Jo Probert, and Kay Lynne Wymore; grandchildren Jon Walker, Jeff Walker, Chris Garrison, Bobby Strickland and Sheridan Strickland; great grandchildren Brandon White, Ashley White, Tanner Walker, Luke Walker, Nate Walker, Caitlin Barnett Emmert, Taylor Barnett, Jake Garrison, Torey Garrison, Keara Garrison, Dalyn Garrison, Caden Garrison, Mason Foster, Alexia Foster and Cassie Strickland; great great grandchildren Jackson White, Lanie White, Grace White, and Cloe Gill and her brother Arnold Starkel. Mildred passed away on Sunday July 29, 2018 at Lakepoint of El Dorado. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Homer Starkel, Charles Fullen, Leslie Starkel and Gene Starkel and her grandsons Jim White and Pake Wymore. Her family will gather with friends on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
