Ruth’s life began on Christmas Day 1915, in Three Mile Corner, West Virginia. She is the daughter of John Sullivan and Grace Florence (Shuman) O’Brien. She attended Oilton High School in Oilton, Oklahoma and Hill Brothers College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ruth was united in marriage to Floyd Clayton Shoopman in 1939, in Phoenix, Arizona. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, painting, macramé, and decoupage. Ruth was a member of the Eufaula First Baptist Church in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She is survived by her son, Tom Shoopman of Garner, North Carolina; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ruth passed away on March 9, 2018, in Clayton, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; daughter-in-law, Sue Shoopman; three brothers and four sisters. Her family will gather with friends on Thursday, March 15, from noon and 1 p.m. at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado.
