Mary’s life began on September 16, 1935 in Kansas City, MO; the daughter of Leonard and Thelma (Hummel) Elder. She attended and graduated from El Dorado High School. Mary was united in marriage to Rae A. Hobson on February 14, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado. Mary followed her faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church and a charter member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. She was the family planner, whether it was a vacation or family gathering, she put it together. Mary enjoyed her time mentoring 4th grade students at Skelly School. She also enjoyed spending time during the holidays, especially Christmas, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family, which includes her children Cynthia Jackson of Eureka, Alan Hobson of El Dorado Laura (Lee) Lilley of Haysville; grandchildren Bethany Bonomini, Jayme Kingsley, Jill Licht, Callie Simpson and Erin Simpson; and 7 great grandchildren. Mary passed away on February 17, 2021 in El Dorado. She is preceded in death by her husband Rae; son-in-law Ken Jackson; brother Don Elder and her parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Thursday, February 25 at Carlson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, February 26 at Carlson Funeral Home. Mary will be laid to rest at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the American Bible Society.
