Marlyn Berg-Voth

June 15, 1931 ~ May 23, 2018 (age 86)

Marlyn’s life began on June 15, 1931 in Larned, KS; the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Warring) Reed. She is the great granddaughter of two pioneer Pawnee County families. She graduated from Larned High School and the University of Kansas, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Marlyn married Donald O. Berg on August 22, 1953 and he passed away in 1972. Following employment as a social worker at Larned State Hospital for 22 years, she moved to El Dorado having been hired as program director at South Central Mental Health Counseling Center. Following her employment in El Dorado, she worked as a social worker at Sedgwick County Mental Health Center and Via Christi (St. Joseph) Medical Center. In addition to her employment, she was the co-owner of Queen of Arts Gift Shoppe on Clifton Square in Wichita and a portable disco business, “King of Clubs”, out of Wichita. In the early 80s, her interests turned to an active involvement in raising and racing horses, which took her to numerous racetracks in the Midwest. On October 7, 2005 she married longtime friend, Roy H. Voth, with him she continued her interest in the horse racing business. After a 44 year career of social work, she expanded her life of service volunteering with the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Senior Ambassadors and Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Marlyn was a member of the El Dorado First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being part of The Bluestem Antique and Classic Car Club and loving her pets. Marlyn passed away on May, 23, 2018 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband Roy, Marlyn is survived by his daughters Rita (Lynda) Voth of Newton, and Heidi Davison of El Dorado; step-grandchildren Lynden Voth and Kristen Davison and her brother DuMont (Barbara) Reed of Prairie Village, KS. She is also survived by nieces Karen Vaughan of Prairie Village, Lauren (Mark) Werner of Pittsburgh, KS and Robin (Gary) Thies of Shawnee, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald Berg. Her family will gather with friends on Friday, May 25, from 5-7pm at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 10 am at the El Dorado First Presbyterian Church led by Pastor Ruth Waite. Marlyn will be laid to rest in the Larned City Cemetery at 2:30 on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be directed to Susan B.
