Marge was such a kind, generous friend and neighbor in Gunnison. It was always fun to learn what they were up to when they were lunching at Farrells. The delightful combination of Jim and Marge is one I will never forget. Such memories!

Dear Carrie and Family, Your mom, wife, and grandmother has left a spot in everyone heart that knew her. She was the best teacher that kids could ever have. Every time I would see her and Jim out in public always had a big smile and would say to me, "Gal how are you today?" Always asking how the kids were. She will be missed but not forgotten. Fly High with the Angels, Marge. Your fight is over and now you can rest forever. Until we meet again. God give this family the peace and comfort they need to get through the next days, coming months and even years.

So sorry to hear of her passing but glad to see this tribute and have a chance to remember her sweet bright soul who brightened the restaurant I had the privilege of working in. So glad I knew her. Love to the family and friends!

I was so sad to hear of Marge's passing. Jim and she were like a second set of parents to Mike and Rhonda for the Carter family. She was a great elementary school teacher and I think without pause, shared her special touch with the children of her friends. She had so much energy and was such a great woman. She will be missed but remembered by all the many she nurtured and enlightened.

Dear Jim and Family,
So sorry to hear of Marjorie's passing. She was such a lovely person. And Jim and Marj a delight to be with. Marj always had the biggest of smiles for me, and was always full of laughter. Although it's been many years since seeing her at Farrell's (where we met and remained "Farrell's friends" for many years), I have such fond memories of you both. All the best to you and your extended family, Jim. She had a life well-lived, and well-loved, as do you.
Fondly,
Melody (Mother of Princess Leia)

I was saddened when my sister shared the news of Mrs. Tiner's passing. So many memories of both Mr. and Mrs. Tiner came flooding back into my mind. I was in Mrs. Tiner's first grade class at Skelly in 1975-76 and fondly remember how she helped me adjust to a new town and school. Thankful for her and the way she took care of all us. My prayers go out to all of the family that God will bless you and keep you during this time.

I have been fortunate in my life to know and be guided by some exceptional women. Marge Tiner was one of those women. She was one of my sixth grade teachers and was so caring. She set high expectations for us but encouraged us and helped us meet them. I will never forget her kindness when my grandmother died that year. Later, after I had decided to become a teacher she became my mentor and one of the reasons I went into teaching. By this time she was teaching first grade and I was extremely fortunate to be able to do my student teaching with her. After 32 years, I still remember her words of advice and her incredible example of loving and teaching kids. When Marge retired and I would see her out and about she always had time to visit. She would ask how my class was doing and check on my family. She had a way of making you feel like you were the one person she hoped she would run into that day. Such a classy, caring, and positive person. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jim (who was also my teacher) and her family. Thank you for sharing her with me.

Mrs. Tiner was one of my best and most memorable teachers. I can count on one hand the teachers that most inspired me to become a teacher myself--and Mrs. Tiner is one of them.

We are so sad to lose our Aunt Margie. She was so loving and helped us try to understand the death of Janel at such a young age. She always had a story to tell or some small momento to share and always remembered birthdays with a card and special note. What a blessing she has been to us and we know that we now have another angel watching over us. We love you Aunt Margie! And send love to Uncle Jim as he deals with his loss and to Carrie and Jubal and their families.

I owned Jacob's Well Cafe and Coffeehouse for 5 1/2 years, and never had better customers than Jim and Marge. We would see them coming and start making Marge's latte, or her "La dee dah" as Jim would say. I will miss her relentlessly positive attitude and warm laughter.
Love you Jim! Praying for you and your family.

I have so many fond memories of "Mrs. Tiner." She was my eldest daughter's kdg teacher and our first experience with elementary school. All of my girls were touched by Marge's gift of teaching. She left such a lasting impression and was a part of our family for many years! What a wonderful and beautiful person and educator! Prayers to all of her family. Much love, Tricia Wiebe

Marg and my mom, Gail, were close friends for....well, longer than either of them would probably admit. They taught together for years and had a very special bond. Whenever Marg called the house to talk to Mom, if I answered the phone she would spend at least ten minutes just talking to me. She always asked how work was going and wanted to know if I had read any good books lately. We had the nicest conversations and I always enjoyed just chatting with her. She and Mom would often go out for coffee just to "catch up." Mom would say, "Marg is coming by in the morning, we're going for coffee." To which I would reply, "So it will just be Dad and I for supper tomorrow night." A cup of coffee always seemed to last a minimum of 4-5 hours. So although I am sad that she is no longer here with us, I smile a little thinking of two old friends who are "catching up" once again over a four-hour cup of coffee.
Jim, Jubal and Carrie thoughts and prayers go out from our family to yours at this difficult time.

Dear Carrie,
Your mother was such a sweet lady. She taught my brother Rick Jenkins Sr. in 3rd grade at Jefferson. But we would visit at the Cancer Center of Ks. here in El Dorado. I am sorry for your loss. It is never easy, but I pray the Lord will hold you in His loving arms and give you comfort. Linda Spain Gaines

If I had to come up with a single simple word for our friend Marge Tiner, it would be KIND. Let me expand this in efforts of remembrance: Our good friend Marge was - a (K)indred spirit to many, (I)nto being a great listener, a prolific (N)ote/letter writer, (D)own to earth in so many ways. Marge, while not a blood relative, she sure felt like a family member. The earthy presence of this one-half the “Tiner’s Two” will be greatly missed. Thought and prayers go out to this wonderful family.

Jubal and Carrie, we are so sorry for your loss. I've been through losing my mama. It still hurts. There aren't words adequate enough at times like these. But know that I understand and care.

Your family is on my heart and in my prayers. I'm glad to have known your mom. She was a kind and thoughtful woman and I know she loved her children and grandchildren immensely.

She will be waiting for you at eternity 's gate, just as my grandmother was waiting for my mother. She saw her. Her spirit will live on. Of that, I am sure. God give you peace in the coming days and weeks. Angie and George

I was 22 years old when I walked in to Skelly School one August day. I was the newly hired Kindergarten teacher. Marge Tiner, one of the first grade teachers came to my door with her son, Jubal. I think Jubal was 13. Marge had rollers in her hair….we did that back in 1977, wore rollers all around town. It was before blow dryers. Marge introduced Jubal and herself, she extended her hand and that’s how our friendship began. Little did I know that I had just met one of the dearest friends I would ever have. She had extended her loving hand to me for the past 40 years. Our friendship never wavered.
Marge was a beautiful person. I loved her, I loved the way she listened to me and made me feel worthy and special. She was like that. She had a way of making you feel as if you were the most important person in her life. Our co-teacher, Roberta Van Horn felt it and so did Mrs. Tiner’s students.
We often shared funny stories about students. I loved to listen to her stories. My favorite story was when the little 1st grade girl told Mrs. Tiner that she already knew how to read. Mrs. Tiner handed her a book and asked her to read it, the girl looked at the book, then glanced up at Mrs. Tiner and said, “I can only read in Chinese!”
We laughed together, we cried together but most of all we loved children together, we loved our own families together and we loved spending time together …………..We enjoyed our 20 minute school lunch times while we taught and most especially our 4 hour luncheon dates after we retired.
She gave me such good advice not only about teaching, marriage or parenting but also about life. We had a special bond. She was the best role model. Thank you to Carrie & Jubal, for sharing your mom with me.
Just a few short years ago, I learned Marge had cancer, I tried to comfort her and yet in return she was compelled to comfort me. I couldn’t imagine my life without Marge. I still can’t. She knew and I knew this day would come………but it is so hard to say goodbye. Praying for you, Jim.
I will remember Marge as the compassionate, caring, loving person she was. She was classy, understanding, and so very giving. I will miss my friend dearly, I will miss her weekly letters, notes, and cards. She loved to write to others---one thoughtful lady. No matter what, she stayed in touch.
I just want to say, thank you to my dear friend. Thank you for making my world better. Your friendship made me a better person.
We always ended our time together by saying:
Love you lots……………..I love you lots, Marge Tiner.
