Lloyd’s life began on February 3, 1930, the son of Carl and Myrtle (Quillin) Higgins in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. He graduated from North High School in Wichita, Class of 1948, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in November of 1948. He was united in marriage to Wilma Mae Roland on April 17, 1965, in Park City, Kansas. Curly retired after 37 years from Derby Coastal Refinery as an electrical and instrumentation man. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the OCAW Local 5446 in Wichita. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, going to auctions, buying and reselling.
His loving family includes his sons, Michael (Marcy) Higgins of Hutchinson, Kansas, Gary (Robyn) Higgins of El Dorado, Robert Higgins of Grove, Oklahoma; step-daughters, Marcie (Chris) Cottrell of McPherson, Kansas and Sherry Hall of Vandalia, Illinois; a sister, Phyllis Stripling of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Josh (Shalene) Higgins, Ty (Amy) Higgins, Justin (Ashley) Higgins, Jamie Higgins, Linda (Matt) Green, Kaitlyn (Taylor) Hepburn, Gabe (Kaitlyn) Higgins, Levi Higgins, Ellie Higgins, Leanna Higgins, Lee Roland, Abigail Higgins, Kyle Cottrell, Rochelle (Sank) Watson, Damien Gillett and Cory Gillett; and many, many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; sons, Lloyd Jr. “Butch”, and Patrick Higgins; a brother, Carl Higgins. Lloyd passed away peacefully on Friday, November 2, 2018, having reached the age of 88 years old.
His family will gather with friends on Friday, November 9, from 5-7 p.m. His funeral service will be held Saturday, November 10, at 10:30 a.m. both at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Towanda Cemetery.
