Tribute

Ken’s life began on October 17, 1932 in Missouri Valley, IA. He is the son of Harry and Hazel (Basch) Kierscht. Ken was a graduate of Logan High School in Logan, IA and a bachelor’s degree graduate of Pittsburg State University. Ken served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to the former Delores “Julienne” Birks on February 20, 1955 in Logan, IA. Ken was a farmer for 20 years until he decided to return to college and become a social worker, going to work for the State of Kansas retiring in 1995. He enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, working in his yard, watching his birds and KU Basketball. Ken was an avid history buff, reader, and woodworker as well. His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife of 63 years Julienne Kierscht of El Dorado, son Craig (Donna) Kierscht of Bennington, KS, daughter Kathy (Ken) Wheeler of Gower, MO; grandchildren Luke Kierscht, Brandon (Molly) Kierscht, Travis Kierscht, Julie (Matt) Smith and Dustin (Keshia) Wheeler; eight great grandchildren; one brother Harold (Connie) Kierscht of Dennison, IA and several nieces and nephews. Ken passed away December 23, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Lloyd Kierscht. His family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado. Memorial contributions in Ken’s name may be directed to Harry Hynes Hospice.
