Joyce Maxine Reed Schmidt (Mohler), age 86, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away in the presence of loved ones on September 13, 2022. Joyce was born on July 2, 1936 to Gordon and Vena Mohler in Leon, Kansas. She married Kenneth Schmidt at the Leon Christian Church on May 25, 1991.
Joyce had many jobs throughout her life, some of which included taking care of the home, being a bus driver, helping out at her sister’s grocery store, being a book-keeper, and operating the Prairie House Café in Leon. Throughout her life, she was always very involved in her church. She spent many years as the treasurer at the Leon Christian Church and also at The First Church of the Nazarene in El Dorado. There were many things in life that she enjoyed and made her happy. Growing orchids, drinking a good HOT cup of coffee while reading her bible, and snuggling up with her beloved dog, Mugs. Joyce was also a great cook and her family will deeply miss her chicken and noodles, warm homemade pull-a-parts, and her homemade cookies and pies.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Kenneth Schmidt of El Dorado, KS. She is also survived by her children Rex (Cathy) Reed of Papillion, NE, Ric (Liz) Reed of Kalispell, MT, Ross (Jan) Reed of Valley Center, KS, Gina Moore of El Dorado, KS, Rebecca (Mark) Scroggins of Canyon, TX; sisters Wanda Haigler and Leona (Ronnie) Knight; sister-in-law Rosemary Mohler, 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rhonda Warren, son-in-law Darryl Moore, brother Beryl Mohler, sister Edith Hull, brothers-in-law Jim Haigler, and Glenn Hull and ex-spouse Richard Reed.
Visitation with family will be held on Friday, September 16 from 5-7pm at Carlson Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 17 at The First Church of the Nazarene in El Dorado, KS. Joyce will be laid to rest at the Leon Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to The First Church of the Nazarene in El Dorado, Kansas and also to the Alzheimer’s Association.
