John’s life began on September 5, 1938 in Fredonia. He is the son of John J. and Kathryn (Fellers) Shell. John was a 1956 graduate of Leon High School. He worked as a machinist for Cessna, Associated and Britton Manufacturing and as an oil field roughneck for many years. He was a member of the Leon Masonic Lodge and loved to fish and hunt. John enjoyed trips to the casino, Louie L ’amour novels and old westerns on TV. As a young man, he enjoyed riding motorcycles. His greatest joy was his family that includes his children John W. Shell, Jr of Wichita, Jeffrey (Jessie Frisbie) Shell of El Dorado, and Cathleen Frazier of Wichita; grandsons Jason Shell and Treyston Frazier; sisters Elaine Shell of Rose Hill, Joyce Peden of Wichita and Linda Poulter of El Dorado. John passed away on Saturday September 1, 2018 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. He is preceded in death by his first wife Louise (McAdoo) Shell, second wife Charlotte (Camp) Smith, grandson Cordell Frazier, and sister Mavis Troutman. John’s family will gather with friends on Saturday September 8th at 11 a.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home for his memorial service led by Pastor Dave Melton of the Benton Christian Church. He will be laid to rest in Leon cemetery. Memorial contributions in John’s name may be directed to the Masonic Home in Wichita.
