John Knowles

John R. Knowles, 88, died on February 3, 2020 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born in El Dorado, Kansas on December 5, 1932.

John lived most of his life in El Dorado, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He returned to El Dorado and married Pamela Diane Peal on November 9, 1957. They raised their family and attended Grace Lutheran Church in El Dorado. John worked for Skelly, Getty, Texaco and Chevron in their local refinery, where he was a welder and pipefitter.

In 2005 he and Mrs. Knowles retired on South Padre Island, Texas. Upon her death in October of 2010 John moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. There, he lived independently, caring for his dog Pepper, collecting coins and growing tomatoes on his patio each summer.

Mr. Knowles was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwendolyn Knowles, his wife, Pamela Knowles, his parents, three brothers, two sisters, two nieces and one nephew. He is survived by his son, David Knowles and his wife Jennifer Knowles, his daughter Karen Levine and her husband Richard Levine Jr. and three grandchildren, Winston and Briton Knowles and Richard (Trey) Levine III, as well as sixteen nieces and nephews

A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday February 29th at 11:00AM in the Carlson Chapel, 200 South Star, El Dorado, KS with a reception and lunch following the service.
