John “Phillip” Jones, 71, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020 with his loving wife by his side. Visitation and viewing will be held from 12:30 PM- 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January, 21, 2020 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home followed by the memorial service at 1:30 PM. Burial will be at Walnut Valley Cemetery, El Dorado, KS.
Phillip was born February 22, 1948 in Emporia, KS to parents John Brodie Jones and Eleanor (Salmons) Jones. He lived in Emporia, Kansas until the family moved to El Dorado while he was in elementary school. During his adolescent years, he worked at the family’s A&W restaurant and later graduated from El Dorado High School in 1967. After graduation, he attended Butler Community College and worked at Frontier Refinery until his retirement in 2010.
In 1996, he married Shun Yueh “Sally” Minard. Together, they enjoyed dancing, going to movies, and travelling to Taiwan, the UK and various US states to spend time with family and friends. Phillip was a kind and quiet man who liked to keep things simple.
Surviving family includes: his wife, Sally Jones, daughters, Cami Jones of Manhattan, Lesa (Mike) Rumsey of El Dorado, Staci Jones of Wichita; step-children, Kandice (Eric) Schultz of Luxembourg, Brandi (Justin) Brenner and Rob (Peggy) Minard, all of Wichita; brother, Steve (Marilyn) Jones of El Dorado; a niece, 11 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a nephew. Donations in Phillip’s name can be made to KU Wichita Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
