John C. Cunningham, 71, passed away at his home in El Dorado on March 5, 2018.
There will be no public service. Carlson Colonial Funeral Home is serving the family.
John was born January 25, 1947 in Chanute, Ks. to Benjamin and Mary Cunningham. He graduated Chanute High School in 1965. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist in the Air Force from 1965-1969. He was honorably discharged with a Vietnam Service Medal. On Aug, 4, 1989 John married Carole Shoemaker. She passed away on March 29, 2011. On July 8, 2014 John married Patricia Mitchell.  She survives. John was a proud American and a loyal husband, friend and father. He enjoyed motorcycles (Harley-Davidson, of course!), watching movies and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carole Cunningham. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, El Dorado; Sister, Elena Mehl, Houston, Tx., nieces and nephews-Brian, Meghan, Kevin, Aaron, Jordan and Nolan Mehl; Children Janice (Mike) Lyhane, Marysville, Ks., Sheryl (Steve) Jones, Rose Hill, Ks. and Beth Bugbee, Dickson, Tn. Grandchildren Mike (Ashley) Lyhane and Tyler Lyhane, both of Marysville; Amanda (Landon) Bratcher, Smyrna, Tn., Samantha (Brian) Stewart, Lebanon, Tn. and Kati (Elliott) Smith, Portland, Tn. He had 9 great-grandchildren: Brendan, Kayla and Barrett Lyhane, Donovan and Hadley Bratcher, Jacob and Addison Monson, Austin Ferebee, and Jaxon Smith Also, brothers-in-law Greg (Carol) Mitchell, Emporia and Dan (Sabrina) Mitchell, Chanute, Ks.
