Jo’s life began on March 25, 1929 in Rosalia. She is the daughter of William F. and Mabel F. (Shepherd) Counter. Jo was united in marriage to Edgar E. Kennedy on November 10, 1946 in Topeka. Jo and Edgar lived in as many as 40 states during their life including Hawaii and also in Canada. She worked for Grave’s Drug Store, at a POW camp in Pennsylvania during WWII and the Red Coach Inn in El Dorado. Jo passed away on April 8, 2018 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Jo is survived by her children Terry W. (Andrea) Kennedy of Matfield Green, Eddie J. Kennedy of Belle Plain, Rita (Larry) Arnold of El Dorado, and Todd (Miki) Kennedy of Oxford, 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Her parents, daughter Tonya Danette in 1961, husband Edgar in 1987, and ten siblings preceded her in death.
Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, led by Pastor Lorna Boden. She will be laid to rest in Walnut Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
