James’s life began on October 17, 1937 in New York City, New York; the son of Rocco and Agnes (Cestaro) Romano. James faithfully served our country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Margaret Clayton on July 20, 1957 in New York, his sweetheart since the 7th grade. James was transferred to the Getty Refinery in El Dorado and continued working until retirement from Texaco in 1993. During this time he served as a the Refinery Fire Chief and as a Fire Safety Inspector. For over 41 years Jim served as a volunteer fireman for several agencies, to include as Asst. Fire Chief for Miller Place, New York, the City of El Dorado, as Deputy Fire Chief in Towanda and as a member of the Butler County Rescue Squad. James was a longtime fan of the NY Rangers, enjoyed hunting and as a para-professional at El Dorado Middle School. Faamily was most important to James and he strived to be a great provider. He loved all his children and his family which includes his wife, Margaret of Augusta; children Lorraine (Tim) Morton of Grand Rapids, MI, James (Shelly) Romano of Olathe, Jennifer Romano of Towanda, Deborah (Duane) Book of Augusta; grandchildren Kristen (Steve Hummel) Morton, Keri (Michael) Camilere, James Romano Jr, Brendon Romano, Nicole Romano, Cassidy Treweeke, Anthony Treweeke, and Vincent Book; siblings Mary Ann (James) Gersbeck and Martha Vidal; and sister-in-law Kathy Romano. James passed away on November 6, 2019 in Wichita, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Romano.
