Jim Ekstrom, (78) passed away July 17, 2021 at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, KS. He was born on March 14, 1943 at Lindsborg, KS to Ferdon and Nellie (Noble) Ekstrom. He was a graduate of Salina High School, Butler Community College and Wichita State University.
Jim retired from Wal-mart in 2007 after 50 years in retail with Dillon Companies, Sam’s and Wal-mart.
He married Julie White on August 9, 1980 in El Dorado. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church. Jim and Julie loved to travel and had visited all 50 states, 43 countries and ten Canadian provinces.
Jim served his country proudly in the United States Navy 1965 – 1969 as an Air Traffic Controller.
He is survived by children, Connie Wold of Topeka, KS, Jennifer Currier, Chris (Sheryl) Hayes, Scott (Tamara) Kimball, Nancy (Buckus) Roberts; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles V. Ekstrom and son-in-law Greg Wold.
Jim will lie in state at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home from 9am until 5pm on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Graveside services with military honors will be at 10am at Sunset Lawns Cemetery on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Carlson Colonial Funeral Home directing. It is requested that those in attendance please wear masks due to the increase of Covid cases.
