Henry "Hank" Eugene Pursell

May 22, 1929 ~ January 3, 2022 (age 92)

Henry “Hank” Eugene Pursell was born May 22, 1929 and died on January 3, 2022.
His parents were Henry Franklin Pursell and Virginia Huddleston Pursell. Hank grew up in the Flint Hills of Kansas in the oilfield town of Kimbro, a few miles North of Teter Rock. He attended a one-room country elementary school and graduated from Hamilton High School. Hank went to work in the oil fields after high school, and except for a two-year stint in the Army, he worked for Cities Service Oil Company for over 37 years. His last six years on the job were as production foreman. During his years with Cities Service, he lived in Teterville, Towanda, and El Dorado. During his two years in the Army he was stationed in Germany.
Hank was a hard worker, totally dedicated to his job, but took a retirement in 1986 at age 56. He said it was an offer he couldn’t refuse. He enjoyed golf, bowling, growing vegetables in his garden, and following the Kansas City Royals. He was active in the Masons, and was in the American Legion Honor Guard into his 80’s. He was named Veteran of the Year in 2018. Hank was the kind of person that would do whatever was in his power to help anyone in need.
Over Hank’s long life he was married three times. First to Helen Christine and they had a son, Terry. Second to Vickie and they had two sons, Bob and Steve. Finally, later in life, he married Rosa. Hank and Rosa loved to travel and visit family in their retired years.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Pursell and wife Jan of Enid, OK, Bob Pursell of Paola, KS, and Steve Pursell of El Dorado; stepchildren, Bill (Tammy) Sammons and Dottie White; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. He is preceded in death by Rosa; his parents; his two sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Christine Virginia; stepdaughter, Roxanne “Punkin” Sammons and granddaughter Nikki.
Memorial donations in Hank’s name can be made to the El Dorado American Legion Post 81.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 5-7pm at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 1pm at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
