Helen E. Cornell

Longtime El Dorado resident Helen Cornell, died Monday morning October 7, 2019, at Lakepoint in El Dorado. She was 75 years old.
Helen Elaine Maddox was born on January 13, 1944 in Monument, Kansas, the daughter of Stella L. (Burk) and Harold M. Maddox.
She was united in marriage to Dan J. Kemmerly on August 29, 1959 in El Dorado. They divorced in 1967. She and Bob Johnson, Jr. we together for 6 years. She worked at Vintage Place Assisted Living and then worked 10 years before she retired from Creative Community Living in El Dorado.
In her free time, Helen enjoyed playing darts, Yatzee, and latch hook. She especially enjoyed trips to the casino with her sisters as well as playing bingo.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Larry D. Maddox and Wilma McNamara. She is also preceded by her granddaughter Donna Rae Johnson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children James Kemmerly and his wife Holly of Glenco, AL, Annette Kemmerly O’Roke and her husband Steven of El Dorado, KS, Bob R. Johnson Jr. and his wife Lisa of El Dorado, KS, and Nancy Johnson of El Dorado, KS. Helen is also survived by her brother William Maddox or Norfolk, VA, sisters Nancy Scobee and Husband Alvin of Flippin, AR, and Cheryl Maddox of Overland Park, Kansas. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren, and 3 Great Great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and special friends. She will be greatly missed.
There will be visitation with her family on Thursday, October 10, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, Burial will follow in the Walnut Valley Cemetery.
