Longtime El Dorado, KS resident George Evinger, died Friday, December 20 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was 80 years of age.
George Albert Evinger was born on September 9, 1939 in the northwest Kansas town of St. Francis. He was the only child of Cecil E. and Novello A. (Williams) Evinger. He grew up in St. Francis and while he was in the 7th grade, his family moved to Ingalls, KS.
After high school, George worked construction with his father for I.A. Shears & Son. He began his career in the trucking industry with Bankers Dispatch in Goodland, KS. The next 8 years would take from Goodland to Salina, KS and on to Kansas City.
On July 2, 1966, George was united in marriage to Jill Manette Coons at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland. They would have two daughters Leann and Laina.
George was an independent truck driver for 5 years before starting a 38 year career with Yellow Freight Company that would take his family from Goodland to Salt Lake City and then to Independence, MO where they retired and moved to El Dorado.
In his spare time, George had a passion for racing cars. He enjoyed working on cars and found there wasn’t hardly a car he couldn’t fix. He embraced the challenge.
His most cherished time was spent with his loving family, and there was hardly a sporting event he missed to see his daughters play, and later his grandchildren. His daughters and grandchildren were his life.
George is preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years Jill, of their home in El Dorado, his daughters Leann Kirkendoll and her husband Matt of Andover, and Laina Hamilton of El Dorado. His 6 grandchildren Garret Armstrong and his wife McLaren, Gage Armstrong, Madison Armstrong, Caitlynn Hamilton, Ethan Hamilton, and Cassidy Hamilton.
