Tribute

Gary Wayne Prewitt, age 66 of Rose Hill, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was born on August 20, 1954 in El Dorado, Kansas to Ralph and Phyllis (Knox) Prewitt. He worked as a teller for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. However, his real passion was for hunting, fishing, and archery. Gary hunted everything you could think of, including deer, elk, bear, pheasant, pigs, coyotes, ducks, geese, and even the occasional rat when it got into the cars. He absolutely loved his family and felt blessed to have met the love of his life, Kathy, and they shared 20 beautiful years together, 10 of which as a married couple. He made lifelong friends from the day he was born and loved to make people laugh. Gary was also an avid cook and enjoyed grilling and smoking briskets and pork. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Joppa #223 of Leon, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Teresa Yount.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Prewitt; sister, Mary (Bill) Orr; stepchildren, Mandi Jakubowski, Carley Harrelson, and Denver Harrelson; niece, Beth Gonzalez, nephews, Landon Gray, Greg Yount, and Tyler Orr; five step granddaughters; two step grandsons; beloved dog, Layla; and beloved cat, Shadow.
Memorial donations in Gary’s name can be made to the Kidney Foundation, Masonic Lodge Joppa #223, or the Teresa Yount Scholarship fund at Emporia State University.
