Gary’s life began on February 25, 1940, the son of Willard Roy and Kathryn “Babe” (Kelly) Garrison in Phoenix, Arizona. He graduated from El Dorado High School Class of 1958, and then graduated from Vo- Tech and Manpower Development and Training Program. He married Sheila Marie (Cook) Barnett on March 15, 1981, in Newton, Kansas. He retired as a truck driver for Dustrol, Inc. in 2007. After a few years of retirement, he went to work part-time for Maclaskey Oilfield Services and retired from there in early 2017.
As a teenager, Gary was a fantastic dancer and won several dance contests. As a young man and father, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching his sons’ baseball team and entering the Demolition Derby. Gary enjoyed the freedom of being a truck driver and the scenery he viewed while traveling. He enjoyed watching NFL football and was an avid KC Chiefs fan. He also had a love of animals and enjoyed spoiling his dogs, Sammy, Annie and Charlee.
His loving family includes his wife, Sheila Garrison of El Dorado; sons, Cary (Lycrecia) Garrison of Augusta, Dary Garrison of El Dorado; daughters, Lynn Paine of Wichita and Jeni Barnett of Wichita; he helped raise his step-children, Jerry Barnett and Tony Meyer; brother, Bill (Pat) Garrison; sister, Kathleen (Danny) Morrow all of El Dorado; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen Garrison and a sister, Janet Orndorff. Gary passed away Monday, September 24, 2018, having reached the age of 78 years old.
His family will gather with friends on Thursday, September 27, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28, at 1:30 p.m. both at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
