Garry’s life began on October 14, 1934 in Howard, Kansas; the son of Jack and Dorothy (Applegate) VanBuskirk. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Clubine on June 30, 1956. Together they managed the Champlain Service Station in Liberal for over 20 years. Garry also worked for the state of Kansas as a chemist. For over 55 years, Garry and Phyllis owned and operated the Dairy Queens in both Liberal and El Dorado. Garry enjoyed camping and hunting in his spare time. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling. Garry enjoyed “Jeeping” or going off road driving with his Jeep. His greatest joy was his family; which includes his children Dorthy Stafford of McPherson and David (Karen) VanBuskirk of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Mikayla VanBuskirk, Andrew (Jessica) Stafford and Allycen (Ryan) Burton and one great grandson; brother-in-law Kay Mitchell of Howard and sister-in-law Paula VanBuskirk-Braddy of Mulvane. Garry passed away on December 24, 2021 in Wichita. He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; sisters Virginia, Deloris, and Katherine and one brother, Jackie. Friends may gather with the family from 10-11 on Friday, December 31 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11am. Garry will be laid to rest at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Christian Motorcycle Association.
