Francis’s life began November 14, 1939 in Leon, KS. He is the son of Francis W. and Ruby (Cousins) Sowers, Sr. He is a 1957 graduate of Leon High School and attended Butler County Junior College. He married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Faye Westervelt on August 6, 1960 at the Leon Methodist Church. Francis retired in 1997 from the Texaco refinery in El Dorado. He also kept a small herd of cattle on his farm near Leon and for many years operated Sowers Hay Hauling. Francis served his community as the Bloomington Township Trustee, and as a Deacon of the Leon Christian Church. In recent years he enjoyed “Facebooking”, playing cards, and dinner’s out with friends. His greatest joy was his family which includes his children Teri (Bruce) Lyon of Wichita, Lisa (Dave) Karase of Raymore, MO, Kenny (Cristi) Sowers of El Dorado, Christine Stutts of San Antonio, TX and honorary son Mike (Dena) Neal; grandchildren David, Stephanie, Amanda, Jaimie, Kelsi, Khloe’, Carson, Kalub, Kincade and Jacob; eight great grandchildren; sister Peggy Brock of Huntsville, TX and brother Ray Dean Sowers of Chelsea, MI and several nieces and nephews. Francis passed away on Wednesday October 31, 2018 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Juanita, brother Robert and son-in-law Darrell Stutts. His family will gather with friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Leon Christian Church led by Pastor Kelly Benton. He will be laid to rest in the Leon Cemetery.
