Lifelong El Dorado, Kansas resident Forrest Lockard died Thursday, January 9 at Lakepoint of El Dorado. He was 83 years of age.
Forrest Reuben Lockard was born on April 12, 1936 in El Dorado, the son of Frank E. and Nellie B. (Batchelor) Lockard. Forrest grew up in El Dorado and graduated high school with the class of 1954.
After high school, Forrest began working at Farm ‘N Home in El Dorado where he would meet his future wife Mary Ann.
Forrest and Mary Ann Shropshire were united in marriage on July 20, 1958 at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado. They had two children, David and Melissa.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1959 being honorably discharged in 1961. After he returned from the service, he began a 34 year career with Gas Service Company in El Dorado.
His was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and was a former Boy Scout leader. His Scout trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico were among his favorite memories, and he was proud of all the young men he influenced.
Forrest enjoyed camping, woodworking and yard work. He was very much an “outdoor guy”. He cherished the time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a very devoted husband and father, and will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man.
Preceding Forrest in death were his parents, his loving wife Mary Ann, granddaughter Emily Lockard, his brother Leroy Lockard and sister, Freda Doane.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children David Lockard and his wife Lori of El Dorado, and Melissa Lockard of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren Bryan Lockard and Adam Lockard, 2 great-grandchildren Paisleigh Lockard and Hudson Lockard, siblings Frances Dickson and Joyce Randolph, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held with the family on Monday, January 13 at Carlson Funeral Chapel in El Dorado, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 14, at 2:00 P.M. at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Memorials may be made in Forrest’s name to Lakepoint of El Dorado. The family would to thank the staff of Lakepoint for their love and care.
