Ernie’s life began on July 6, 1945 in Reading, PA. He is the son of Ernest A. and Esther (Zellers) Small. Ernie served his country in the United States Navy in the late 1960’s. He worked as an ironworker out of the Ironworkers Local 24 in Wichita. Ernie was a guitarist and loved music. He played with a band in Wichita and enjoyed the local music scene. As a young man in high school both Ernie and his twin brother Chuck wrestled for El Dorado and Ernie was also on the tumbling team. He could build most anything, and helped family remodel homes and do it yourself projects. His loving family includes his daughter Maelee Williams of Kansas City, six grandchildren; siblings Chuck Small of Medford, OR and Sandra Manspeaker of El Dorado; nieces and nephews Robyn (Gary) Higgins, Scott (Tara) Manspeaker, Jon and Dusty Kennedy. Ernie passed away peacefully at his home on March 22, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents. His family will gather with friends on Friday March 29th at 3 p.m. at Walnut Valley Memorial Park for his graveside service. Carlson Colonial Funeral Home is serving the family.
