Longtime El Dorado resident Enos Groves died Monday, December 9 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was 89 years of age.
Enos Aubrey Groves was born on January 28, 1930 in Jewell County Kansas, the son of Claud E. and Maud R. (Bender) Groves. He grew up on farms in Jewell and Smith counties in north central Kansas. He graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1948.
On June 4, 1950, Enos was united in marriage to Freda Belle Upp at the parsonage of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Lebanon. They had three daughters Brenda, Ronda, and Gale. Enos spent several years farming before they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he was a police officer. In 1961, they moved to El Dorado where he spent the rest of his career as an Insurance Adjuster.
In his spare time, Enos enjoyed working on their rental properties, going square dancing, and being a 4-H leader and coach. He was a true handyman and a faithful member of The Trinity United Methodist Church in El Dorado, where he served in many capacities and board member positions. For many years, he and Freda enjoyed volunteering for various events and community activities.
Preceding Enos in death were his parents, 6 sisters and 5 brothers.
Surviving family members include his loving wife of 69 years, Freda, of their home in El Dorado, his daughters; Brenda Burk and her husband Kent of El Dorado, Ronda Willard of Manhattan, KS, and Gale Ray and her husband Chuck of Wichita. Surviving grandchildren Scott Hutson and his wife Jennifer, Erin Burk and his wife Renee’, Jason Burk, Robyn Seglem and her husband Juston, Justin Nash and his wife Bobbi, Damien Ray and his wife Jennifer, and Kylie Williams and her husband Josh. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 16 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in El Dorado. There will be a visitation period 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Walnut Valley Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made in Enos’ name to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
