Elsie Ann Haines, 85 yrs, 11 mos., 13 days stepped over into Jesus’ Heavenly Kingdom October 31, 2023, surrounded by her family at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Besides her husband Gerald, Elsie’s legacy is her family including daughter, Cindy (Firooz) Monshizadeh of Overland Park, son Dan (Joyce) Haines of Leon, son Scott (Lisa) Haines of El Dorado, daughter Jerri Ann (Jerry) Fike of Wellington, and son Vince (Melody) Haines of El Dorado. Also, 14 grandchildren; Andrew (Tremaine) Monshizadeh, Peter (Lindsay) Monshizadeh, Devin (Stacy) Haines, Derek (Nichole) Haines, Emily (Jason) Stephens, Holly (Jason) Bright, Heidi (Jeremy) Rose, Lacie (Mat) Rose, Gary (Kelsey) Fike, Lindy Fike, Laura (Spencer) Jensen, Sam (Paige) Haines, Wesley (Caroline) Haines, and Adam Haines. A further treasure of Elsie are the 28 (soon 31) great-grandchildren; Parker, Haley, Natalie, Drennan, Devin, Landon, Evelyn, Greyson, Lillyana, Dylon, Tristen, Cameron, Jordyn, Kaden, Baleigh, Landon, Owen, Bradyn, Avery, Harper, Gavin, Adalyn, Lincoln, Griffin, Kiersten, Lucy, Alice, and little Elsie; plus 2 great-great grandchildren. Also, surviving Elsie are her siblings Donnese (Robert) Harsh, Rojean (Doug) Owen, Vernon Jr. (Colette) Willhite, Larry (Gigi) Willhite. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lloyd. Elsie was born in El Dorado, raised by parents Vernon and Laura (Gray) Wilhite on the family farm near Rosalia. Active in Rosalia Methodist Church, Elsie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in childhood and continued to deepen her faith through participation in Sunday school, MYF, 4H, camp activities. . . continuing into adulthood as a Benton 4H leader, Trinity UMC youth group sponsor, and as a lay witness in LWM events throughout Kansas and other states. Elsie and Gerald transferred membership to El Dorado First Baptist Church in 2001 continuing to deepen their faith experiences. She was his partner volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels and was recognized by DAR in 2022 as Volunteer of the Year. Elsie and Gerald were high school sweethearts in Rosalia and on November 23, 1955, began a 67+ year marriage filled with devotion and love. She became his loving supporter and is remembered by him and their family as a sacrificing partner and parent giving of herself without question to whatever needs presented themselves. As the family became more independent Elsie took on various employments eventually retiring in 1998 after 20+ years as administrative secretary with Butler County Special Education office. Camping and RVing became favorite pastimes with great enjoyments of travels and making friends across the nation. Many retirement years were spent wintering in the Rio Grande Valley while spending summers in Northern Wisconsin lakes and woodlands. They remain active members of Sunflower Ramblers RV club participating monthly in local and state outings. Travels that stand out in their memories were RVing to Alaska and an eleven-day tour taken to Israel. Elsie will be missed but never forgotten by her family and the many friends that enjoyed her warm personality and loving demeanor.
Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Monday, November 6 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, November 7 at the First Baptist Church of El Dorado. Elsie will be laid to rest at Blankinship Cemetery in Rosalia.
