Tribute

Earl’s life began on December 26, 1943 in El Dorado. He is the son of Oran and Mary (McVay) Wakefield. Earl is a 1961 graduate of Leon High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree with honors from Wichita State University. He was united in marriage to the former Martha Marshall in March of 1965. Earl served his country in the Kansas Army Reserves and Guard. He retired from Texaco as a supervisor and electrician. He also owned Wakefield Electric and did lots of electrical work in area homes and businesses. Earl gave back to his community through his involvement with the Joppa Masonic Lodge in Leon and the Midian Shrine in Wichita. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He served on the El Dorado Library Board for several years, as well. Earl was an avid newspaper reader and enjoyed his life on the farm. He could often be found tinkering on a piece of equipment or helping someone with a project. Earl also enjoyed boating at the Lake of the Ozark’s. His greatest joy was his family that includes his wife Martha of El Dorado, daughter Renee (Don) Campbell of Ottawa, brother Leonard (Morlene) Wakefield of Augusta, brother in law Sammy Hatter of Tulsa and several nieces and nephews. Earl passed away at his home on November 13, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruby Hatter. His family will gather with friends on Monday from 1-2 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where his service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. led by Pastor Stan Seymour and Masonic rites by the Joppa Lodge. Earl will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Earl’s name may be directed to the Joppa Masonic Lodge in Leon.
