Duane “Butch” Michaelis’ life began on November 19, 1948 in Russell, KS; the son of C.M. (Mic) Michaelis and Mary (Svrsek) Davis. Butch had a passion for education and earned his bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State in History. Butch proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He worked hard for his family retiring after 37 years of refinery work as a Supervisor at the Loading Terminal. Butch was united in marriage to the love of his life, Billie Platts on August 6, 1976 in Miami, Oklahoma. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, taking time to enjoy golfing, playing pool, bowling, softball and going fishing. Butch loved to watch KU Basketball and OU Football. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their sports activities as well. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends as well as enjoying making memories with his grandchildren. Butch’s family includes his wife, Billie of El Dorado, children, Trisha (Mark) Ryan of El Dorado, Troy Michaelis of El Dorado; grandchildren, Derek McAdoo, Dylan McAdoo, Tyler Michaelis, Madison Michaelis; great-grandson Porter McAdoo; siblings Dan (Tess) Michaelis, Bev (Nigel) O’Rourke, Carole (Ed) Sack, Connie (Dick) Stewart, Kristen (Anthony) Hernandez, sister-in-law Diann (David) Rogers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family that will miss Butch terribly. Butch passed away on February 29, 2024 in Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 18, at 11am at First Christian Church of El Dorado. Memorial contributions in Butch’s name may be directed to the Susan B. Allen Cancer Center.
