In Loving Memory
Dorothy Maxine (Hankins) Spires, age 88, departed her loving family on July 8, 2022.

They raised rabbits and Dorothy twirled the baton in school. She enjoyed days at the skating rink where she met her future husband.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Leon Spires on September 4, 1951. Dorothy and Leon were devoted parents to Russell Spires and Theresa Strauss. Leon and Dorothy spent 71 years together side by side in marriage. They were together in the house they built and raised their children in up until her last day.
Dorothy was known for her laugh, her ability to live in the moment, and the care and undivided attention she showed her loved ones. She was one of those rare people who never forgot how to play and always had a positive outlook on life. Her hobbies included cheering on KU basketball, playing volleyball well into her 70s and finding ways to be thrifty. She was most proud of her granddaughters and being a Sunday School Teacher.
She is survived by her husband Leon, and her children Russell and Theresa. Her five granddaughters; Melissa Hutson, Casie Wiens, Billie Blenden, Daphne Drake, Ashia Rogers, and Jade Strauss. She was blessed with nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
