Tribute

Dorothy Glee Flattery, born on December 6, 1927, in Cambridge, KS, peacefully passed away on February 4, 2024, in Whitewater, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and a life well-lived. She was the beloved daughter of George Littleton and Elsie Fern (Simons) Sphar.
Dorothy's journey began in the small town of Leon, where she graduated from Leon High School. On August 23, 1947, she married the love of her life, Robert Wendell Flattery, also in Leon. As a devoted wife and mother, Dorothy began her career at the Veterans Administration in Wichita as a secretary. She worked there several years before taking time away from employment when the children were born. She re-entered the workforce again in 1960 as secretary for USD 205, Leon High School. After 16 years at the school, she moved on to the Kansas Turnpike Association as a toll collector. She retired from the KTA in 1988.
As her daughters embarked on their educational journeys, Dorothy re-entered the workforce, serving as the secretary for Leon grade school. Later on, she gracefully retired as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike Association.
In her younger years, Dorothy found joy in bowling. She was also known for her voracious love of literature and a passion for shopping, finding delight in the simple pleasures of life.
Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters LuAnne (Mark) Lucas and Carey (Vincent) McClellan; grandchildren, Candace (Zeb) LaClef, Christopher McClellan, Adam Orr, Tobi Delaney, Jett Lucas, and Jayde Lucas; seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob in 2021, and many siblings and in-laws.
A funeral service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at Carlson Colonial Chapel on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10 AM. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Leon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice (Newton, KS) and Wheat State Manor (Whitewater, KS). Please sign her online guestbook at www.carlsonkirbymorris.com
