Doris’s life began on February 27, 1931 in Strawn, KS. She is the daughter of Henry Nelson and Mildred (Peyton) Steenbock. Doris was united in marriage to the Rev. Mack Roy Ferren on June 7, 1948 in Topeka. She had attended Butler County Junior College and studied business. Doris raised puppies and worked as a breeder. She enjoyed Quilting, sewing, playing the piano, puzzles and was an avid reader. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her son David (Judy) Ferren of Burns; daughters Darlene (David) Bohannon of Branson West, Leah (Robert) Hess of Augusta, and Michal (Don) Gaidano of Ojai, CA; grandchildren Tricia Eshleman, Alicia Ferren, Kacey Hopper, Andrea Bell, Chris Ferren, Jon Fulps, Jamiee Wilda, Stephany Mitchell, Karrie Montalban, Melissa Parker, Meridee Briggs, and Kellie Sullivan; 32 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; brother Dale (Betty) Steenbock of Topeka and several nieces and nephews. Doris passed away on October 28, 2018 in Branson West. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Mack, granddaughter Wendy Arnold, great granddaughter Kelci Ferren and brother Gene Steenbock. Her family will gather with friends on Friday at 1p.m. at the Burns Cemetery for her graveside service led by Larry Womack. Carlson Colonial Funeral Home is serving the family.
