Donald Anthony Nuessen, 87, of El Dorado; died Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at his home.
Donald (Don) was born November 15, 1932 in Olpe, Kansas, to John G. and Anna C. (Scheve) Nuessen. Don was one of 10 children raised on the family farm near Olpe.
Don married D’Elda (Dee) Faye O’Dell on November 15, 1958, in Emporia, Kansas. Don and Dee made El Dorado their home where they raised their children. Don was a heavy equipment operator for Knebler Construction, Augusta, Kansas, for more than 30 years. Don was proud to be a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers-Local 101. Don retired at the age of 59. Don and Dee spent their retirement years wintering in Brownsville, Texas, and their summers camping and fishing at area lakes with long-time friends.
Don leaves behind his four children, Pamela (Greg) Charlton Prattville Alabama; Ricky (Debbie) Nuessen, El Dorado, Kansas; Penny Parker, El Dorado, Kansas; Ronald (Cathy) Nuessen, Wichita, Kansas. His nine grandchildren, Tyler (Kristian) Andrews; Brandon Nuessen; Jessica Charlton; Paige (David) Haist; Ryan (Jessica) Nuessen; Paden Parker; Ashley Charlton; Bryer Nuessen; Sydney Nuessen. Three great grandchildren, Khloie Brumley, Preslie Andrews and Parker Haist. His brother Edward Nuessen; sisters, Marie Barrett, Jan Mercer and Rose Ann White.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Marvin Nuessen, Melvin Nuessen; sisters: Louise Randall, Evelyn Watts and Helen Coen.
A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in El Dorado at 10am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am by Fr. John Lanzrath. We invite you to attend both the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial but we ask that you follow all guidelines set forth by the church regarding Covid-19. Masks are encouraged.
