Joe Lee's life began on August 19, 1926; the son of John and Rhoda (Starkey) Lee in Wichita. His family moved to Augusta when he was only 2. He remained an Augusta resident until he met Bobbie McKown. Joe and Bobbie were married on May 7, 1948 at the First Christian Church Parsonage in El Dorado. They had celebrated 71 years together. Joe worked for the Gas Service Company for 44 years. After retiring he went back to work for Walters Flowers for 14 years. Joe enjoyed watching his beloved Jayhawks, Chicago Cubs and Butler football. One of Joe's greatest passions was coaching his son, nieces, nephews and cousins in many sports. Joe faithfully served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado. Joe's greatest joy was his family, which includes his wife, Bobbie of El Dorado; son, Larry (Carol) Lee of El Dorado; sister-in-law, Marilyn McKown of El Dorado, brother-in-law, Larry (Sandy) McKown of Wichita as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe passed away on July 4, 2019 in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rhoda Lee; in-laws Lawrence and Estie McKown; siblings Dale (Audra) Lee, Orie (Ramona) Lee, infant Alice Lee, Phyllis (Dayle) Showalter and Sally (Dwight) Shrout. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 pm on Friday, July 12 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where his funeral service will by held on Saturday, July 13 at 2pm. Joe will be laid to rest at Walnut Valley Memorial Park with full military honors. Memorial contributions in Joe's name may be directed to the Dementia Society of America.
