Tribute

David S. Ellis of El Dorado passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020.
David was born on November 4, 1950 in Winfield, KS, the son of Martin Joe and Esther Ellis (Carter). He graduated from high school in El Dorado and completed a bachelor’s degree at Wichita State University. A musician and artist, David was active in several local bands over the years. Most will remember him as the lead singer of The Weasels, a group formed in the ‘60s that continued to play together for decades. The Weasels included band mates Harold "Buster" Beal, Jim Calhoun, Jim Cox, Doug "Elkshot" Crespin, Linsey Cutsinger, Keith Frye, Teresa Leonard, Rick Maddux, Amboo Ploy, Jon Van Sickle, Wade Williams, and Jerry Wilson with many others sitting in along the way. A long-time resident of El Dorado, David was also active with the El Dorado Main Street’s work, ran the old Pop ‘n Go Video store and the old KAHS radio station, and was a web and graphic designer.
If he wasn’t singing, playing an instrument, or working on a new art piece, you might’ve found him trying out a new recipe in the kitchen or watching KU sports or the Kansas City Chiefs. He might’ve also been out lending a helping hand to one of his many friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin L. Ellis and her partner Jennifer Muse, Bloomington, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Esther.
Cremation will take place and no memorial services are planned at this time.
Erin and Jennifer would like to acknowledge the tremendous support and kindness from David's neighbors and friends, Tom and Kellie Elliott, during this difficult time.
In memory of David, his daughter requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Wichita Symphony or the Coutts Museum of Art. Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of David at www.carlsoncolonial.com
