Darrel’s life began on November 30, 1948, the son of Martin and Mary (Holland) Kichler in Pittsburg, Kansas. He graduated from Girard High School Class of 1966, attended Pittsburg State for two years and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. Darrel married Donna Lynette Maish on August 4, 1973, in El Dorado.
Darrel worked at Ace Forms, Butler County Highway Department and the Towanda Well Service. In retirement he occasionally worked for John K. Fisher car dealership in El Dorado. He enjoyed fishing, antique tractors, camping, playing with the grandkids and piddling at the farm. He was content working on tractors or just doing odd and end jobs to keep things up and running. He also made sure his kids’ cars were always in working order.
His loving family includes his wife, Donna Kichler of the home; son and his wife, Kevin and Tina Kichler of El Dorado; daughter and her husband, Kara and Travis Nutsch of rural Hamilton, Kansas; brothers, Larry Kichler of Little Rock, Arkansas, Dennis (Pam) Kichler of Wellsville, Kansas, Steve Kichler of Girard, Kansas; sisters, Karen (Warren) McGown of McCune, Kansas, Diane (Tom) Call also of Girard; five grandchildren, Kayla, Reid, Tyler, Katelyn and Tessa; one great-grandson Caybryn; and several nieces and nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Darrel passed away, Wednesday, April 25, 2018, having reached the age of 69 years old.
His family will gather with friends on Sunday, April 29, from 2-4 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. both at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Darrel will be laid to rest in the Towanda Cemetery, Towanda, Kansas.
