Craig Alan Samp, of El Dorado, Kansas, died on February 28, 2020 in Wichita, KS. He was 69 years of age.
He was born on March 10, 1950 in Prairie Village, Kansas to William and Isla Samp. Craig was raised in El Dorado and graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1969. After graduation, Craig enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he returned to El Dorado and graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in fire science.
He worked at Holly Frontier refinery as a fire and safety engineer for 30 years.
He loved hunting and fishing and riding his Harley. After his retirement he met his “happily ever after” and married Janet Dillmon Samp. He also became a father and friend to Krista Pepper, Scott and Danna Lee and Grant Hastin and “Poppy” to Gage, Garrett, Janae, Jordan, and Jackson.
He is also survived by his sister Deb (Pat) Galloway and special in-laws Susan and Rodger Burton and Matt, Kelsey and Cohen Burton.
There will be a visitation time with the family on Wednesday, March 4 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5 at 2:00 PM, with United States Navy Military Honors, at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Craig’s family suggests any memorials be made in his name to the El Dorado American Legion Post #81.
