Clara’s life began on February 9, 1935 in Yates Center. She is the daughter of Aaron E. and Rebecca “Myrtle” (Park) Hamilton. She attended school in Yates Center and worked building road bridges and in sewing factories. Clara was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, American Legion Auxiliary, The B.P.O. Elks in El Dorado, and the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to sew, crochet, bowl and play bingo. Her grandchildren always looked forward to receiving her creative and mysterious Christmas gifts (and the birthday cards that sometime came two years late). Her loving family includes her children Gene Anderson of El Dorado, Raymond Anderson of Burlington, Evelyn (Charlie) Maclaskey of Gridley, Judi (Scott) Leason of El Dorado, Kim Crisp of Lawrence, and Janice (Adam) Holt of Monument, CO; step sons Rick (Jan) Griffith of CO, Steve (Candice) Griffith of Wisconsin, Ron (Bonnie) Griffith of CO, Kin (Barb) Griffith of CO, Stan Griffith of CO, and Dan (Nolvia) Griffith of CO; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; her sisters Myrtle Caudell of Moran and Ella Dill of Wichita and many nieces and nephews. Clara passed away on May 23, 2018 at Lakepoint Nursing Home in El Dorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughters Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Anderson, and Rebecca “Becky” Marie Birk and son in law Rex Eugene “Gene” Birk; sisters Millie Cole, Mary Hamilton, Essie Morrison, Alma Geisler and Charlene Brockman; and brothers Billy Hamilton and Richard “Bones” Hamilton. Her family will gather with friends on Friday June 1st from 10-11 a.m. at Jefferson Street Baptist Church where her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Greenwood County Cancer Support Group or the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary.
