Tribute

Carita’s life began on April 25, 1938 in El Dorado. She is the daughter of Samuel G. and Lolita (Hurlbert) Unger. Carita is a graduate of Leon High School and attended junior college briefly before she married her husband of 61 years, Donald Cox on December 16, 1956 at the Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. She was a homemaker and worked alongside Don in managing their rental properties in El Dorado. She loved growing flowers and was a loyal card sender; always writing encouraging words to the recipients regardless of the occasion. Carita volunteered her time, love, and knowledge of horticulture by designing and tending to gardens at the Bethlehem House and at the First Free Church in Wichita. Her greatest joy was her family, which includes her husband Donald of Topeka, son Brad (Cindy) Cox of Topeka, granddaughter Hannah (Andrew) Singleton of Topeka, grandson Sam Cox of Topeka; great grandson James Singleton; brother Ralph W. Unger of Bolivar, MO; sister in law Elizabeth Unger of Manhattan, and several nieces and nephews. Carita passed away on November 2, 2018 at Midland Hospice in Topeka. Her parents and brother Samuel G. Unger precede her in death. Her family will gather with friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Nathan Slaughter.
