Burton’s life began on November 22, 1921 in Coffeyville. He is the son of Bruce and Florence (Mitchell) Bowlus. Burton was united in marriage to Margaret Corson on June 8, 1944 in Coffeyville. Burton was most of the way through Kansas University when he was called to the United States Army during World War II. In the Army, Burton was trained to be a meteorologist and later served in that role for the Air Force Reserves. After the end of World War II, Burton quickly graduated from KU and began a business career that included operating laundromats and plastics manufacturing in El Dorado. He was a stamp collector and train enthusiast. Burton also was active in many civic organizations throughout the years. He is survived by his son James A. (Marieta) Bowlus of Highlands Ranch, CO. Burton passed away on December 4, 2018 at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, daughter Kathryn Bowlus, and two brothers Tom and Joe Bowlus.
