Betty R (Snell) Garner, 91, of Leon, Kansas passed away Monday, June 28, 2021.

She was born on September 24, 1929 in Lexington, Missouri, the daughter of George W and Ruth (Foulks) Snell. She was united in marriage to William H (Bill) Garner on March 9, 1962 in York, South Carolina.

Betty was a Leon resident for 49 years. During that time she was a waitress at the Prairie House, a school bus driver, a substitute teacher, and was also the first (and only) female Mayor of Leon. Betty spent a lot of her time at the Leon Senior Center, even becoming a board member for many years. During her spare time she enjoyed playing golf and quilting.

Those she leaves behind are her children, Peggy (Larry) Denney of Topeka, Kansas, Patty (Orville) Short of Arizona, Billie Sue Hodge of Washington, Shirley (Bruce) Redden of Leon, Kansas, Marie (Jimmy) Denny of El Dorado, Kansas, and Bill (Jolene) Garner of Utah; eight grandchildren, Donna Peterson, Keith Kerschner, Bonnie Kuch, Chris Short, Billy Hodge, Katlin Garner, Allison Garner, and Rachel Garner; 19 great grandchildren; and 14 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, George W Snell Jr.; her parents; and two children.

Memorials in her memory are for the Leon Senior Center.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 2:00pm at the Leon Senior Center.
