Barbara Soukup

Barbara June Soukup 80, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018. Her family will gather with friends on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home of Eldorado for visitation from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. with service following at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Ruth Waite of the First Presbyterian Church. Barbara’s life began on April 23, 1938 in Marion, KS. to Arnold Waits and Leah Schick Maloun. Barbara was a Nursing Home Administrator, Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for several nursing homes, and Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. She married Allen “Joe” Soukup on June 22, 1979. Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. She was an avid reader, loved her beloved dog Trixie, and she loved doting on her grandchildren. She was active in the Leon Saddle Club, carrying on her love of the rodeo through her granddaughters. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children: Teresa Self of El Dorado, Joe (Janet) Soukup Jr., of Newton, Theresa (Mike) Soukup of Seattle, WA, Kay Self of Derby, Sherri (Whit) Hurlburt of Greensboro, NC, Kenny (Liz) Soukup of Richlands, NC, Donna (Steve) Ades of El Dorado, Lorrie (Korey) York of Gardner, KS and Charles Scearce of Leon; grandchildren Audrey Braman, Jerrod, Justin and Jodi Soukup, Tosha Richardson, Jerimiah Self, Amber Self, Bret and Tyler Hurlburt, Katy Jewell, Alison Soukup, Aaron and Amanda Ades, Andy Ball, Jestina Miles, Rayn and Legand Scearce; 27 great grandchildren; and siblings John and Jim (Jill) Maloun. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, sons Monte and Tim Self and siblings Bill, Mary Ann and Joe. Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be directed to the Susan B.
