Tribute

Barbara Deane Simmons, 90, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at El Dorado LakePoint Assisted Living, with family by her side. Barbara was born January 11, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas, the oldest of five children, born to the late John B. and Martha Audine (Singleton) Hogoboom. She lived all of her life in Butler County, graduating from El Dorado High School in the Class of 1948.

She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” L. Simmons on June 3, 1949 at the First Christian Church in El Dorado and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before Bob’s death in January of 2013.

After raising her family Barbara worked for Buckeye Supply until her and Bob opened their business, Bob’s Accounting and Tax Service, which they retired from in 1986.

Her great joy was spending time with her eleven grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren, having Sunday dinners and family cookouts together, making them special gifts, whether it was sewing, cross stitching, cooking or baking, it came from her heart.

She was a member of the Towanda First Baptist Church. She loved gospel singing and was very dedicated to serving her Lord and Savior.

For the last seven years, following Bob’s passing, Barbara has made her home at LakePoint Assisted Living. Enjoying bible study with Pastor Tom each week, LakePoint Holiday Dinners shared with her family, and the wonderful care that was given to her from the staff.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kay Burden and her husband, Rick; son, Robert D. Simmons; grandchildren, Erin (Jason) Conrad, Eric (Elizabeth) Burden, Amy (Mike) Foes, Angie (Jonathan) Greene, Christopher Smith, Andrew Smith, Sara Schabel, Stacie (Reed) Corley, Julie (Billy) Foreback, Leslie (Blake) Martin, Ashlie (Davey) Neil; 26 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Bobby R. Smith, Jr.; sister-in-law, Pat Hogoboom; brother, Dick Hogoboom; sisters, Karen Clontz and Lois Diamond.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Nancy Lynn Smith and brother, Bartley Hogoboom.
