Arlene’s life began on January 7, 1934 in Ransom, KS; the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kraus)
Hilmes. She was united in marriage to Howard Roths on August 10, 1954 at St. Aloysius Church
in Ransom, KS. She worked for Benton Grade School for over 10 years. Arlene was always
cooking, baking, canning and extremely busy on the family farm. Arlene’s true joy was her
family which includes her children, Jerry (Renee) Roths of Benton, Ken (Linda) Roths of
Wickenberg, AZ, Patti (John) Pluenneke of Kansas City, MO, Janet Roths of Benton and Paul
(Lisa) Roths of Benton; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brother Ralph (Rita) Hilmes
of Montrose, CO; sister-in-law Donna Hilmes-Hurn of Topeka, KS and brother-in-law Tom
Stoecklein of Ness City, KS. Arlene passed away on October 17, 2021 in Andover, KS. She is
preceded in death by her husband, Howard, sisters Joan Roths, Virginia Stoecklein and brothers
James Hilmes and Gerald Hilmes. A rosary service will be held on Friday, October 22 at St.
Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Andover at 10 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at
10:30 am. Arlene will be laid to rest at Benton Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name
may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or Sunlight Child Advocacy Center
